JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Auto Service Technician Level 5 is expected to perform include:

  • Carrying out complete system diagnostics and full automotive troubleshooting and testing
  • Performing specialized repairs of mechanical, electrical and electronic faults
  • Assisting technicians/mechanics in performing repairs
  • Testing vehicles on the road
  • Preparing vehicle records and reporting them both manually and on a computer
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2, 6
  • It is not a desk job
  • Need to handle a team of Helpers and other Technicians
  • Local travelling is not required
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization
  • Shift system is available
  • Overtime may be required
  • Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Preferably, diploma in mechanical/automobile engineering
  • Certified training for Auto Service Technician Level 5 (programme aligned to ASC/Q 1403 released by Automotive Skills Development Council)
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Ability to perform repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Knowledge of  the functioning of each system, component and aggregate of the vehicle
  • Ability to obtain sufficient information from customers to assess their needs
  • Knowledge of how to maintain tools and equipment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to maintain an organized and neat workshop
  • Ability to stay abreast with rapidly changing automotive technology
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1
  • ASDC Auto Service Technician Level 5 Certificate OR Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Electrical/ Automobile Engineering
  • Physically fit
  • Good hand-eye co-ordination
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Good communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
