JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Fitter - Fabrication is expected to perform include:
  • Preparing for and performing fabrication and fitting operations of metal products
  • Using hand tools or manually operated machines to modify the shape or generate components from raw materials
  • Preparing for and carrying out cutting operations on carbon steel
  • Testing for accuracy and quality and dealing with contingencies
  • Preparing and carrying out manual metal arc welding for producing various types of joints
  • Performing tasks within the health, safety and environmental regulations
 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It is not a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available
  • Work from home option is not available

 

Working hours
  • Work is 5 days a week and a minimum of 8 hours per day
  • Shift system is available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Minimum - 10th standard 
  • Certified training for Fitter - Fabrication (programme aligned to CSC/Q 0303 released by Capital Goods Skill Council)

 

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • In-depth knowledge of fabrication, fitting, metal cutting and welding operations
  • Knowledge of terminology, how to read drawings, suitability of work pieces/materials and consumables
  • Working knowledge of sequences and correct techniques and procedures of using tools and equipment for fabrication and fitting
  • Knowledge of using hand tools and manually operated machine tools
  • Knowledge of the problems that occur in fitting and fabrication, and the procedures to address them
  • Understanding of component quality standards and how to check the quality
  • Knowledge of the range, mechanical properties and forms of materials and metal components
  • Complete knowledge of the manual cutting operations, welding and their process, procedures, materials and equipment required, etc.
  • Working knowledge of the gases used, gas mixture ratio, types of flames, lighting, cutting and welding procedures, problems and corrective measures, etc.
  • Knowledge of methods and equipment used in welding
  • Knowledge of weld defects, types of joints, factors, beads, weld positions, etc.
  • Knowledge of the health, safety and environmental regulations, hazards associated and protective equipment required for fabrication, fitting, cutting and welding activities
