JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Blood Bank Technician is expected to perform include:

  • Collecting, labelling and storing blood
  • Testing samples to screen potential donors
  • Maintaining documentation and records
  • Monitoring the vital signs of patients during procedures
  • Checking compatibility of blood before issuing it out for transfusion

  • It is not a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Working hours
  • Individuals usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. Institutions are open for 24 hours a day 7 days a week

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Preferably, 12th
  • Certified training for Blood Bank Technician (programme aligned to HSS/Q 2801 released by Healthcare Sector Skill Council)
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Ability to identify suitable individuals for donation of blood
  • Knowledge of taking vital parameters such as pulse, blood pressure and body temperature
  • Proficiency in documenting collected vitals of potential donors
  • Knowledge of prescribed limits of vital parameters within which blood can be donated
  • Ability to interpret and perform risk management procedures
