JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks that an Architect, Naval is expected to perform include:
  • Designing and overseeing construction and repair of marine craft and floating structures
  • Studying design proposals and specifications to establish basic characteristics of craft such as size, weight, speed, propulsion, armament, cargo, displacement, draft, crew and passenger compliments, and fresh or salt water service
  • Supervising construction and testing of prototype in model basin
  • Designing complete hull and superstructure according to specifications and tests data
  • Designing layout of craft interior including cargo space, passenger compartments, ladder wells and elevators
  • Establishing arrangements of boiler room equipment and propulsion machinery, heating and ventilating systems, refrigeration equipment piping, and other functional equipment after discussing with Marine Engineer

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It is not a desk job
  • Needs to handle a team of Engineers
  • Local travelling is a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available

 

Working hours

  • Construction companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

  • Shift system maybe available

  • Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 2

Minimum – Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment of ships, boats, tugs, dredgers etc.
  • Knowledge of assessing the nature of repairs required on ships and marine vessels
  • Proficient in identifying worn out parts and replacing them
  • Proficient in supervising and controlling subordinates
  • Well-versed in ensuring efficiency of mechanical equipment fitted to ships
