JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Animal Geneticist is expected to perform include:

  • Conducting research in animal genetics and dealing with problems concerning evolution of new breeds, rearing of livestock, genetically control of disease, artificial insemination, sterilisation, etc.
  • Studying inherent traits in animals and analysing their causes such as environment, food, colour, growth, maturity, sterility, diseases, etc.
  • Conducting experiments to develop better variety or strain of animal to resist diseases, increase yield of milk, meat, eggs, etc.
  • Selecting animals of required character to cross breed different animals to get required strains by natural breeding or artificial insemination
  • Maintaining charts and records of crossings and breeds of animals for several generations
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2, 4
  • It is not a desk job
  • Need to supervise a team of Nurses and other Medical Staff
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Individuals usually work for 6/7 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. The organization or institution remains open and functional for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week 
  • Shift system may be available
  • Overtime may be required
  • Being self-employed is also an option. In​ this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Preferably, Master’s degree in veterinary
