JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Algologist is expected to perform include:

  • Studying, identifying and classifying algae plants for use as edibles and soil manure
  • Visiting areas such as sea-sides, river-sides, swamps for study of algae on natural surroundings
  • Collecting specimens of different varieties of algae for study in laboratory
  • Studying nitrogen content, food value, etc. of algae
  • Propagating methods for rowing particular type of algae to enrich nitrogen content of soil for paddy cultivation
  • Studying fresh water algae or marine algae
  • Controlling and growing algae in water circulation system
WORK ENVIRONMENT 2, 1
  • It is a field job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably, Master’s in Biological Science

  • Skilled in using binocular light compound microscopes, spectrometers, centrifuges, lasers and other investigative laboratory equipment
  • Skilled in identifying and examining different types of algae
  • Knowledge of differentiating between edible and non-edible algae
  • Knowledge of effects of environmental changes on algae
  • Skilled in studying the molecular structure of algae
  • Knowledge of growing and maintaining algae health in water
