JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Botanist, General is expected to perform include:

  • Studying structure, physiology, reproduction and economic value of plants
  • Applying study of plants to various fields such as agriculture, forestry, etc.
  • Undertaking field trips and collecting specimens of plants for study in laboratory
  • Identifying and classifying plants
  • Studying effects of environmental factors such as rainfall, temperature, soil, etc. on growth of plants
  • Devising new methods for growing plants and crops
  • Determining medicinal value of plants and evolving measures for its economical exploitation
  • Preserving plants using special preservatives/herbarium sheets
  • Maintaining experimental botanical garden for study and research purposes​

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Preferably, B.Sc. in Botany

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Ability to study origin, development, structure, physiology, reproduction, economic value, etc. of plants for use in such fields as agriculture, forestry, horticulture, etc. 
  • Ability to undertake field trips for study of basic aspects of plant life in natural environments
  • Ability to collect specimens of plants using microscope, special staining techniques and scientific equipment
  • Ability to identify the temperature, climate, soil etc. required for growth of different plants
  • Ability to devise new methods and measures for growing of plants and other crops useful to human and animal life
  • Ability to report on medicinal value of plants and evolve measures for its economic exploitation
  • Ability to preserve plants and plants part in special preservatives or in herbarium sheets
  • Ability to maintain experimental botanical garden for study such as ecology, mycology, algology, embryology, etc.
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1
  • Ability to experiment and research on particular crops like rice, sugarcane, cotton, etc.
  • Ability to  record specialization in particular fields of study as plant pathology, plant genetics, mycology, cytology, plant geography, algology, plant taxonomy and systematics, etc.
