JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Impression Taker is expected to perform include:

  • Taking ink impression of inscriptions found on temple walls, stone slabs, pillars and other monuments on paper as required by Epigraphist
  • Placing wet paper on inscribed portion of stone or metal plate
  • Beating paper over inscribed portion with hand brush​ so that paper gets into incision of engraved letters and applying black ink on surface of paper
  • Removing inked paper from stone inscription, showing real inscriptions in white against black background
  • Handing over paper containing inscription to Epigraphist for deciphering
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2
  • It is a field job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3, 5, 6

Preferably, B.Sc in Forensic Science with Certificate Course/PG diploma in Forensic Document and Fingerprint

  • Knowledge of identifying graphemes
  • Ability to clarify the meanings, classify the uses according to dates and cultural contexts and draw conclusions about the writing and the writers
  • Well-versed in identifying a forgery
  • Knowledge of inscriptions commonly incised on stone or marble on metal or on wood
