JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Production Chemist is expected to perform include:

  • Supervising the production process
  • Providing production schedules and necessary guidelines to Production Operators
  • Preparing directions for Junior Chemists/Production Operators for each step in the production process
  • Reviewing documentation and ensuring all in-process checks are carried out as per the standard operating process
  • Maintaining good manufacturing practices and conditions suitable for production of quality goods
  • Communicating any equipment breakdown to the maintenance team
  • Training Junior Chemists/Production Operators
  • Checking, maintaining, sourcing and planning sufficient and quality stock of materials and chemicals
  • Developing standard operating procedures to improve efficiency
  • Facilitating audits as a production team member
  • Maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment
  • Co-ordinating with the Shift Supervisor, cross functional teams and within the team

  • It is not a desk job
  • Need to handle a team of Junior Chemists/Production Operators 
  • Travelling is not required for the role
  • Part-time work is not available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Preferably, Graduate Diploma in Pharmacy/Mechanical & Chemical Engineering./B. Pharmacy/Graduate in Science Or M.Pharmacy/Masters in Science
  • Certified training for Production Chemist (programme aligned to LFS/Q0202 released by Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council)
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of production equipment
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures
  • Knowledge of the ideal conditions for working of equipment, their calibrations, inspections and maintenance schedule
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements of the production area
  • 1 year of training for entry level Chemist
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry, government rules and regulations and standards of manufacturing
  • Basic knowledge of formulations and API, fundamental science of API production and various formulations
  • Basic knowledge of production planning, supervising and delegating
  • Knowledge of documentation as per GMP and QMS guidelines
  • Knowledge of safety standards to be followed and how to deal with an emergency
  • Knowledge of job safety analysis for various production machines and equipment
  • Knowledge of process safety analysis and handling hazards
  • Knowledge of audits, importance of documentation and basics of production data analysis
