JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Criminologist is expected to perform include:

Investigating the origin, nature and causes of crimes
Suggesting the methods of prevention of crime
Studying social conditions and statistics of crime
Collecting data and statistics about the various types of conducts that constitute a crime
Correlating the crime prevalent in a particular community under particular social conditions with actual crime committed
Analysing the problems with all the socio-legal angles
Suggesting measures to prevent crimes through an effective and modern penal mechanism
Evolving institutions in society to prevent individuals from indulging in criminal behaviour

WORK ENVIRONMENT ^{1, 2}

Local travelling is a part of this job role

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ³

Preferably, Master’s in criminology

Basic knowledge of psychology, sociology and other fields
Proficient in making reports
Skilled in understanding the mindset of criminals
Ability to help the society by working out ways to prevent crimes
Skilled in analysing crime, crime patterns and techniques, criminal behaviour, magnitude, nature and frequency of crime
Proficient in judging criminal participation and the rate of victimization
