JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks an Engineering Supervisor, Telephone is expected to perform include:
  • Controlling and supervising sub-inspectors, linemen, installation mechanics and maintenance mechanics 
  • Supervising erection, installation, maintenance and repairing of telephone lines, cables, instruments and equipment in or outside telephone exchange or in customer’s premises in his area
  • Preparing estimates of expenditure and material required for extension of telephone connections and facilities and obtaining necessary approval
  • Controlling and supervising installation of underground and surface telephone lines and cables to provide necessary connections
  • Checking operational efficiency of telephone apparatus at subscriber's premises and at respective exchanges
  • Organizing repair and maintenance operations during emergencies and breakdowns in commutation systems
  • Maintaining liaison with public and looking into complaints
  • Supervising work of telephone operators
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1
  • It is a desk job
  • Need to handle a team of sub-inspectors, linemen and mechanics
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Minimum – Diploma in ECE/CSE/IT

  • Skilled in personnel and resource management
  • In-depth knowledge of the telecommunication technology, installation and repair work
  • Ability to estimate the cost of a project
  • Knowledge of the topography of the area in which the installation is to be done
  • Knowledge of the wires and other devices required in the installation or repair project
