JOB DESCRIPTION 1

 

The tasks a Furnace Operator, Second Hand, Open Hearth (Steel Manufacturing) is expected to perform include:
  • Assisting furnace operator first hand in tapping molten steel from furnace and adding chemicals, oxides, etc.
  • Keeping oxide and fluxes ready for charging into furnace
  • Maintaining spout for flow of molten steel in proper condition
  • Leading a team of helpers and khalasis on receipt of instructions from furnace operator first hand to open tapping hole of furnace by compressed air gun, oxygen cylinder with pipes or other devices
  • Ensuring that molten metal flows smoothly into ladle
  • Adding various chemicals, oxides and fluxes in ladle to obtain correct specification of steel
  • Closing tapping hole by dolomite, coke mixtures, etc.
  • Repairing, maintaining and dressing runner with fire clay bricks, loan, etc. during tapping intervals

  • It is not a desk job

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Minimum – Any Diploma

KEY COMPETENCIES 1

 

  • Knowledge of tools and machines, raw materials and their processing
  • Knowledge of amount of chemicals, oxides and fluxes required to obtain correct specification of steel
  • Skilled in handling and maintaining spout
  • Skilled in channelling the flow of molten steel
  • Basic knowledge of safety and health regulations followed for working in a furnace
