JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Check Navigator, Aircraft is expected to perform include:

Observing navigator work during flight
Reporting navigators abilities and efficiency with various navigational aids to higher authority
Checking accuracy of charts and time taken by navigator in plotting position of aircraft not equipped with automatic position indicator

WORK ENVIRONMENT ²

It is a desk job but one needs to be on their toes
Need to handle a team of navigators
Travelling is a part of this job role
Part-time work and contractual jobs maybe available in some cities
Work from home option is not available

Working hours

Working hours include around 125 hours a month. This may vary from airline to airline

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ⁴

Minimum – 10th standard plus 2 with physics and mathematics with Flight Navigator Licence

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

Proficient in submitting reports on navigator’s ability and efficiency
Adept at testing navigator’s ability to handle difficult situation in breakdowns, accidents, etc.
Well-versed with recommending navigator’s promotion, demotion or further training to appropriate authorities
Proficient in asking appropriate questions to determine navigators ability and skills

EXPECTED EARNINGS

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE ⁴

Should have completed the performance of the duties of a Flight Navigator
Not less than two hundred hours of flight time acceptable to the Director-General, in aircraft engaged in cross-country flights, including not less than thirty hours by night
