JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Blood Donor Unit Assistant is expected to perform include:

  •  Performing any combination of supportive duties at blood collection unit of blood bank
  •  Scheduling the appointments over telephone for blood donors
  •  Interviewing the blood donors
  •  Recording and identifying the blood credit information on registration form
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2
  •  It is a desk job
  •  Need not handle a team
  •  Local travelling is part of this job role
  •  Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available
  •  Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 6/7 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday.  The organization or institution remains open and functional for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
  • Shift system may be available
  • Overtime may be required

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably,  12th

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficiency in notifying nurse if donor appears to be underweight or too old to give blood
  • Adept at taking blood donor's temperature and pulse while assisting for medical interview
  • Well-versed with unpacking, labelling and stamping date on empty blood packs
  • Knowledge of posting donor names, blood control numbers, and donor group numbers to unit log sheet
  • Adept at sealing filled blood packs and sample tubes, using hand tools and heat-sealing machine
  • Proficiency in serving refreshments such as coffee, juice, cookies, etc. to donors to prevent or relieve adverse reactions and to begin replenishment of blood fluids
