JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Engraver, Glass is expected to perform include:

  • Engraving ornamental and floral designs, monographs etc. on glassware using a revolving copper or stone engraving wheel
  • Sketching or tracing a crayon outline of the design on the surface of the glass article
  • Mounting a copper or stone wheel of proper width and diameter on the machine
  • Starting the wheel and moistening the revolving wheel with water
  • Holding the glassware with both hands against the outer edge of the wheel, so that it grinds and cuts into the glass surface along the outline of the traced or sketched design
  • Changing the wheels to make cuts of different sizes
WORK ENVIRONMENT 2
  • It requires one to sit and work
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is available
Working hours
  • Handicraft and carpet units usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from unit to unit
  • Shift system maybe available
  • Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

Minimum – Functionally literate

  • Proficient in engraving and carving on glass
  • Competent in using glass cutting wheels and hand tools
  • Proficient in making drawings and designs
  • Hand-eye co-ordination
