JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Lamp Shade Maker is expected to perform include:

Making lamp shades from cardboard, parchment, plastic or cloth
Selecting frames of required shapes and sizes
Cutting the material of the desired design to fit the frame
Winding tape spirally over the upper and lower rings of the frame to form a foundation for attaching the material
Sewing temporary stitches to the material around the lower wire and then the top wire and pulling the material taunt
Sewing material permanently to the frame using various stitches depending on whether the material is plain, rippled or pleated
Gluing parts of the shades together and securing shades made of paper, parchment or other materials into prefabricated wire frames

Working hours

Factories usually work for 5/6 days a week for 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

Knowledge of pinning the covering material between the rings and distributing it evenly
Working knowledge of trimming the excess material with a pair of scissors and sewing the lining
Proficient in sewing the trimmings around the top and bottom edges of the shade or attaching the trimmings to the lamp shades
Knowledge of drawing the shade covering over the frame and bastes covering to tape on the rings
