JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Brush Material Preparer is expected to perform include:

  • Preparing hog bristles and other brush filling materials, such as horsehair, nylon and vegetable fibres for use in the brushes
  • Aligning the bristles to ensure that the flagged ends are together and discarding the defective ones
  • Tying a bundle of bristles to prevent bending and placing it on rack
  • Lowering the rack of bundles into the vat of boiling water to remove the natural curl of the bristle
  • Removing the rack after the specified time and placing it on the dolly or in the oven to dry
  • Placing bundle of bristles in the carton and labelling the carton according to length, origin, grade and colour of the contents
  • Preparing other brush-filling materials by straightening, combing, cutting and tying them according to type of material and intended use
  • Holding a bundle of material against the grinding wheel to flag ends, to trim butt ends and to polish material
WORK ENVIRONMENT 2
  • It requires one to be on their feet
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Brush manufacturers usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from unit to unit
  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 

ITI graduate

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Knowledge of preparing hog bristles and other brush filling materials
  • Well-versed with aligning bristles, discarding defective ones and tying bundles of bristles
  • Well-versed with labelling cartons according to the length, origin, grade and colour of contents
  • Proficient in selecting the filling material according to the formula and laying it on work the bench in the prescribed manner prior to processing by the mixing machine
  • Near vision
  • Manual dexterity
