JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks an Edge Operator (Abrasive) is expected to perform include:
  • Trimming and smoothing the edges of the abrasive wheels over the grinding machine
  • Mounting the abrasive wheel or article to the spindle of the machine either singly or in packs
  • Aligning the wheels and fastening the article securely by tightening the nuts and bolts
  • Selecting the required type of star dresser wheel
  • Sliding the star dresser wheel to the machine groove so that it faces the emery wheel to be trimmed
  • Starting the machine by pressing the electric button 
  • Moving the hand dresser wheel along the groove, forward and backward, to trim the edges of the wheels at the set speed
  • Trimming and smoothing the edges to the required specifications by stopping the machine at frequent intervals and checking the size and shape of the material with the measuring instruments 
  • Observing the machine operations to detect any problems, making necessary adjustments to correct problems

  • It requires one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of job
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Factories usually work for 5/6 days a week for 9/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory
  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Minimum – 5th

KEY COMPETENCIES 5
  • Proficient in working with an abrasive wheel
  • In-depth knowledge of setting the speed of the machine to rotate the abrasive wheel at the required speed
  • Knowledge of the different types of star dresser wheel 
  • Ability to clean the article and machine with compressed air to remove dust and powder
  • Experience in setting up, operating or tending grinding and related tools
  • Knowledge of operating the hand dresser wheel
  • Ability to set and adjust the machine controls according to product specifications
  • Manual dexterity
  • Arm-hand steadiness
