JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Furnace Helper is expected to perform include:
  • Assisting the furnace operator by performing tasks like sealing and charging the furnace
  • Observing gauges and manipulating controls on panel
  • Moving levers to tilt furnace into pouring position
  • Skimming slag from molten metal, using bar, rabble or ladle
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It requires one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory
  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in sealing the furnace using paddle and shovel 
  • Adept at charging the furnace with material like scrap, ore, pellets or coke
  • Well-versed with using electric hoist, to position ladles or buckets near furnace
  • Proficient in signalling and co-ordinating with overhead crane operator to position ladles or buckets near furnace
  • Adept at performing furnace cleaning work
