JOB DESCRIPTION 1

 

The task an Iron & Steel-Excavator Operator is expected to perform includes:
Driving and controlling the excavator 
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

It needs one to be on their toes
Need not handle a team
Local travelling is a part of this job
Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
Work from home option is not available
 
Working hours

 

Working hours are 10/12 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week. This may vary from factory to factory
Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1

 

Minimum – 10th/Literate with 3 years of experience
Driving license mandatory
Certified training for Iron & Steel-Excavator Operator (programme aligned to ISC/Q 0004 released by Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council)
 
KEY COMPETENCIES 1

 

Knowledge of the different types of excavators and their specific use
Knowledge of the different types of hydraulic mechanisms
Knowledge of differential and hydraulic oil levels
Proficient in checking the condition of the parking brake, main horn, reverse horn, and head light
Ability to apply grease to all greasing pins and pivot points
Well-versed with the various controls, gauges, warning lamps and other safety devices
Well-versed with keeping the footplates and steps clean and free from mud, dirt and oil
Knowledge of the oil levels of the engine, transmission, radiator coolant and brake
Well-versed in the principles of friction
Proficient  in steering mechanisms and the correct way of steering on slopes
Competent in visual checks to identify damage, defects or leaks before hand
Knowledge of general safety rules like digging and stacking
Proficient with responses to emergencies e.g. the correct way to use an extinguisher
Knowledge of basic physics and the mechanics involved in the various functions of the Excavator
 
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1

 

Technical and gallery training
Refresher training if absent from work for a period of one year or more before re-employment

In lieu of minimum qualification, the incumbent should have 5 years’ relevant experience of driving heavy vehicles
