JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Lascar/OS (Ordinary Seaman) is expected to perform include:

  • Cleaning decks and deck equipment by washing decks, chipping points, painting wood, etc.
  • Breaking out rigs, overhauls lifeboats, cargo-handling and life-saving gears, lifeboat, etc. 
  • Taking depth sounding in unfamiliar or shallow waters and shouting information to bridge
  • Making ready derricks and winches for operation

  • Knowledge of ship stability, ship manoeuvring and ship management
  • Knowledge of maintaining tasks to preserve the painted surface of the ship
  • Ability to maintain line and ship equipment
  • Knowledge of maintaining navigational and maintaining duties
  • Knowledge of using satellite and other electronic devices​
  • Familiar with safety devices like lifeboats and other life-saving gear
