JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Carpenter Worker, Boat Building is expected to perform include:

  • Designing boats, and guiding Carpenters, Boat Building; Wood Sawyers, Hand etc. in constructing them according to specifications
  • Designing small boats and rafts
  • Watching construction of templates, ribs, planking, etc.
  • Checking laying of keel, setting of templates, fitting of ribs, etc. and correcting them if necessary​

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Preferably, 10th pass

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in checking broken ribs and prescribing dimensions for fitting new ones
  • Well-versed in examining planks for ‘grains’, instructing Carpenters to insert small pegs where ‘knots’ are found and ensuring correct riveting of planks on ribs
  • Proficient in guiding construction at every stage of checks such as laying of keel, setting of templates, fitting of ribs, etc.
  • Knowledge drawing ‘mould loft’ based on design on platform
  • Proficient in guiding Carpenters in engine, devit (side crane), winch and other installations, shaft alignment, rudder fitting, copper-sheet fitting, cabin fixture settings, etc. on boats
