JOB DESCRIPTION 1

 

The tasks an Evaporator Operator is expected to perform include:
Charging and operating evaporating tank, vacuum-pan to concentrate solutions by driving off excess water content
Pumping weak (liquid) solution into evaporator tank or pan
Operating vacuum pump to obtain vacuum in pan, if required
Regulating flow of steam into heater coils of evaporator
Testing concentration of solution using instruments or simple chemical tests 
Making necessary adjustments to temperature and pressure to obtain required solution
Pumping concentrated solution from evaporator for auxiliary heating
Implementing safety measures in regard to operation of plant and machinery and handling and processing materials
Oiling and maintaining the machinery
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

It requires one to be on their toes
Need not handle a team
Local travelling is not a part of this job role
Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
Work from home option is not available
 
Working hours

 

Chemical & petrochemical companies usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 2

Minimum – Graduate in any field

KEY COMPETENCIES 1

 

Competent in operating evaporating tank and vacuum pan
Proficiency in regulating flow of steam into the heater coils of the evaporator
Competent in making temperature and pressure changes as required
Ability to perform simple chemical tests
Well-versed with maintaining plant and machinery
Knowledgeable about health hazards and safety guidelines
 
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1

 

Knowledge of tending auxiliary equipment such as settling tanks, preheating tanks, condensers and cooling equipment
Ability to treat solutions, such as those of glue, glycerine, glucose and caustic soda and be designated accordingly
