JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Cast House Junior Operator is expected to perform include: 

  • Cleaning/preparing of the cast house, hot metal/slag runners, etc. 
  • Preparing mud-gun/tap hole drill machine
  • Making tap hole and metal runners, proper heating, etc. before the cast
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1
  • It is not a desk job

Working hours
  • Working hours are 8/9 hours a day for 5/6 days a week. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Minimum – Class 8th pass
  • Certified training for Cast House Junior Operator (programme aligned to ISC/Q0406 job released by Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council)
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Skilled in handling equipment
  • Skilled in operating tools and tackles required for handling equipment
  • Knowledge of operation of cast house equipment e.g. mud gun, tap hole drill machine, overhead crane, etc.
  • Knowledge of EOT crane signalling
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1
  • Training in reading and writing reports
  • Induction training on overview of blast furnace operation
  • Training in tap hole preparation and maintenance
  • Training in trough, iron runner and slag runner preparation
  • Training in operation of mud gun, tap hole drilling machine, etc.
  • Training in cast house crane functioning
  • Training in 5S and safety practices
