JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Fish Overseer is expected to perform include:  

  • Maintaining fish collection centres, fish farms, etc.
  • Advising people and fishermen in proper methods of fish culture   
  • Demonstrating correct methods of fish farming, fish culture, etc.
  • Improving the various methods and processes that are used
  • Assisting fisheries inspector in transporting fish seed to different fishery stations
WORK ENVIRONMENT 2
  •  It is a field job
  • Work from home is not available   
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs maybe available
  • Supervising other workers and helpers is required   
  • Local travelling is part of the job
Working hours
  • Working hours are 9 hours daily for 6 days a week
  • Overtime is common
  • Shift system is applicable

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 2

Minimum – No entry barrier, preferably BFSc

  •  Knowledge of using and maintaining fishing tools and equipment
  • Skilled in different fishing methods
  • Knowledge of safety standards and hygiene practices while fish farming
  • Knowledge of fish bait, fish culturing, breeding, etc.   
  • Knowledge of packaging, preserving and transporting the catch   
  • Knowledge of the latest developments in fishing techniques and methods   
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 2

Specialization in aquaculture or fish genetics and breeding
