JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Manager, Plantation is expected to perform include:
  • Managing the plantation on behalf of the employer
  • Determining type of crop, such as tea, coffee, rubber, etc. to be grown after considering various factors like type of soil, climatic conditions, scope of marketing, etc.
  • Selecting, purchasing and storing seeds, fertilizers, agricultural implements, etc.
  • Organizing operations of ploughing, planting, etc.
  • Supervising operations of manure preparation, weeding, spraying insecticides and other measures to protect crops from diseases
  • Organizing and supervising processes like tapping, threshing, plucking, withering, rolling, shifting, drying, cutting, sorting and storing of harvested produces
  • Undertaking publicity strategies for the produce
  • Identifying markets for products and arranging for their transport
  • Supervising and co-ordinating work of field and office staff
  • Recruiting staff and training them in modern methods of plantation
  • Allocating work to the staff and ensuring proper payment to them
  • Maintaining equipment, fences, building, etc. in proper condition
  • Maintaining muster roll of labour and managing office correspondence
  • Ensuring that provisions of Plantation Act, Labour Act, etc. are observed
  • Arranging payment of various taxes to Government
  • Maintaining production/cost statements and submitting periodical reports to the proprietor
  • Processing the produce partially, prior to marketing

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4
Minimum – Preferably Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture

  • Basic knowledge of conducting research and organizing demonstrations regarding plantation of various crops
  • Knowledge of the latest technology and developments in variety of crops

  • Knowledge of soil types and climatic conditions required for different crops
  • Familiar with nutrient management of the soil
  • Basic knowledge of integrated insect, pest and disease management for crop
  • Familiar with irrigation management

  • Equipped to assimilate market information
  • Skilled in making business plans for farming activities
  • Proficient in managing big farms
  • Skilled in marketing and sales
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and spreadsheets
