JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks an Editor is expected to perform include:

Editing of newspapers, journals, books and leading articles on contemporary events

Planning layout of publications
-
Assigning and coordinating work of different sections and staff such as sub editor, reporter, photographer, etc.

Examining and scrutinizing written material
-
Editing reports of meetings, important events, etc. received from correspondents for publication
-
Writing leading articles on important subjects or events in accordance with prescribed policy

It is a desk job

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Part-time work and contractual jobs are available

Work from home option is available
Working hours- Working hours are 10/12 hours everyday for 6/7 days a week. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 2
Minimum – Preferably Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Journalism or Mass Communication |
KEY COMPETENCIES 3

Proficient in preparing, rewriting and editing copy to improve readability, or supervise others
-
Adept at reading copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax
-
Knowledge of verifying facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources
-
Well-versed with reviewing and approving proofs submitted by composing room prior to publication production
-
Knowledge of publication production, including artwork, layout, computer typesetting, and printing, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget requirements
-
Adept at developing story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal
-
Proficient in assigning topics, events and stories to individual writers or reporters for coverage
-
Well-versed with arrangement for copyright permissions
-
Proficient in monitoring news-gathering operations to ensure utilization of all news sources, such as press releases, telephone contacts, radio, television, wire services, and other reporters
-
Well-versed with making manuscript acceptance or revision recommendations to the publisher
