JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Radio Commentator is expected to perform include:

Giving running commentary on events of national importance, sports events, festivals, etc. over broadcasting system

Obtaining general background of events or occasion, which has to be covered, by consulting relevant literature, interviewing people and visiting locale

Describing local personalities, sequence of events and pinpointing important occasion in the events by modulating tone of speech

Maintaining listeners interest by providing comprehensive picture of the event

Recording commentary by speaking into portable tape recorder by visiting and moving around the site of activity

WORK ENVIRONMENT

It is a desk job

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is a part of this job role

Part-time and contractual jobs maybe available

Work from home option is not available

Working hours

Working hours are 8/9 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week. This may vary company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ⁵

Minimum – Preferably Graduate or Master’s degree

Well-versed with scripting and presenting radio show

Proficient in voice modulation

Well-versed with isolating the important happenings in the event under coverage and broadcasting it on radio according to set programme for general information

Adept at using sound equipment and computers

Proficient in retaining listeners’ interest

Adept at interviewing show guests

EXPECTED EARNINGS ²
