JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Excavator Operator is expected to perform include:

  • Driving and operating an excavator, which is a self-propelled machine
  • Performing basic maintenance on the excavator
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It is not a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is a part of this job role
  • Contractual work and part-time jobs maybe available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/12 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company
  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Minimum – 10th
  • Technical and gallery training as per first schedule, Mining Vocational Training Rules (MVTR) 1966
  • Refresher training if absent from mines for a period of one year or more before re-employment
  • Heavy Commercial Vehicle Driving License
  • Certified training for Excavator Operator(programme aligned to MIN/Q 0404 released by Skill Council for Mining Sector)
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of engines, transmission, their use and function
  • Familiarity with different types of excavators and their specific use
  • Knowledge of instrument panels, their location and operation
  • Proficiency with principles of friction
  • Knowledge of steering mechanisms and the correct way of steering on slopes
  • Proficiency with signage, mining area signs, traffic rules and other safety and emergency signals
  • Knowledge of correct maintenance procedures for an excavator
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1

Knowledge of visual checks to identify damage, defects, cracks or leaks beforehand
