JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Coat Maker is expected to perform include:

  • Stitching of body garments by hand and machine
  • Joining garment parts together by basting
  • Ensuring that the parts are properly aligned
  • Inserting inner material and attaching lining as required
  • Carrying out alteration according to markings
  • Making button holes
  • Stitching buttons and performing other finishing tasks
  • Pressing garment and supervising basting, filling, button holding, button stitching, etc.

  • It is a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week for 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

  • Knowledge about removing stitches from garments to be altered, using rippers or razor blades
  • Ability to estimate garment cost
  • Well-versed with taking measurements for different patterns
  • Proficiency in operating sewing machine
  • Well-versed with cutting and trimming of garments
  • Basic knowledge of latest trends in coat designs
