JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks ​a Mechanic, Sewing Machine is expected to perform include:

  • Examining, adjusting, repairing and servicing sewing machines for proper performance
  • Examining faulty machines to ascertain nature and location of defects
  • Dismantling the machine partly or completely to remove damaged and worn out parts
  • Repairing defective parts or obtaining replacements
  • Assembling parts and testing machine for desired performance by making necessary adjustments of positions of screws, nuts, levers, needle bar, rockers, etc.
  • Stitching trial piece of cloth and making further adjustments, if necessary
  • Cleaning and oiling machine periodically for smooth performance
  • Visiting residences or premises to repair domestic sewing machines on the spot

  • It is not a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization
  • Shift system may be available
  • Overtime may be required
  • Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Preferably, 8th
  • Certified training for Mechanic, Sewing Machine (programme aligned to AMH/Q 1901​ released by Apparel Sector Skill Council)
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of the use, properties and care of different machine parts
  • Knowledge of the sewing machine parts and accessories
  • Ability to help and guide customer in maintaining machines and machine parts
  • Knowledge of sewing machines and its types
  • Knowledge of repairing and maintenance of latest sewing machines
