JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Ceramic Technologist is expected to perform include:
  • Conducting research related to ceramics products
  • Developing processing techniques used in this field
  • Supervising technical work concerned with manufacturing
  • Analyzing test results to determine combinations of materials
  • Ensuring high quality of products
  • Looking into new technologies in ceramics like refractories for air craft
  • Designing equipment and apparatus for forming, firing and handling products
  • Co-ordinating testing activities of finished products for various characteristics

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 1
  • It is not a desk job
  • Need  to supervise a team of ceramic workers
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available
  • Work from home option is not available

 

Working hours

  • Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Minimum – Bachelor’s in Ceramic Engineering

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of all the physical, chemical and heat-resisting properties of materials such as clays and silica
  • Knowledge of ceramic production, such as brick, glass, crockery, tile, pipe or refractories
  • Familiar with the research in the development of heat-resistant properties of the materials
  • Knowledge of development of corrosion-resistant material for use in nuclear energy field
  • Knowledge of methods of processing, forming and firing of clays
  • Proficient in the development of new ceramic products
  • Knowledge of all the safety precautions required
  • Skilled in product designing
