JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Ceramic Technologist is expected to perform include:

Conducting research related to ceramics products

Developing processing techniques used in this field

Supervising technical work concerned with manufacturing

Analyzing test results to determine combinations of materials

Ensuring high quality of products

Looking into new technologies in ceramics like refractories for air craft

Designing equipment and apparatus for forming, firing and handling products

Co-ordinating testing activities of finished products for various characteristics

WORK ENVIRONMENT ¹

It is not a desk job

Need to supervise a team of ceramic workers

Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available

Working hours

Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ⁴

Minimum – Bachelor’s in Ceramic Engineering

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

Knowledge of all the physical, chemical and heat-resisting properties of materials such as clays and silica

Knowledge of ceramic production, such as brick, glass, crockery, tile, pipe or refractories

Familiar with the research in the development of heat-resistant properties of the materials

Knowledge of development of corrosion-resistant material for use in nuclear energy field

Knowledge of methods of processing, forming and firing of clays

Proficient in the development of new ceramic products

Knowledge of all the safety precautions required

Skilled in product designing
