JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks that a Boiler Fitter is expected to perform include:
  • Sizing and fitting various components and mountings to boilers
  • Assisting Boiler Maker in preparing boilers for steam and hydraulic tests
  • Marking components according to drawings and sizing them accurately by chipping, filing, drilling, reaming, tapping, scrapping, etc.
  • Locating carefully positioning of different mountings
  • Fitting external water and lubrication pipes
  • Assisting Boiler maker in cleaning of pipes, connecting pump, sealing etc.
  • Undertaking riveting, caulking, replacing of worn out and defective parts

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 2

  • It is not a desk job

  • Need not handle a team

  • Local travelling is a part of this job role

  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

  • Work from home option is not available

Working hours

  • Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

  • Shift system maybe available

  • Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 
ITI graduate

 

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Competent in belling and beading with power hammers
  • Efficient in bolting arc-weld pressure vessel structures and parts together
  • Well-versed in using wrenches and welding equipment
  • Equipped to examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats
  • Competent in locating defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections
  • Proficient in inspecting assembled vessels and individual components
  • Equipped to install manholes, hand holes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges
  • Ability to straighten or reshape bent plates or structure, using hammer, jacks, and torch
