JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Cartographer is expected to perform include:

Preparing maps from aerial photographs, technical drawings, data etc.

Checking workability and combination of air photographs to bring them to proposed scale of map

Marking streams, railways, sites, contours, vegetation and other items of aerial photographs with ink for details

Drawing maps to prescribed scale ensuring correct geographical position with regard to boundary lines, latitudes and longitudes

Indicating physical, political, industrial and other details on maps using respective conventional signs

Tracing ink-marked items on tracing film for use in administration, research, survey, excavation, construction, mining, exploration of minerals etc.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

Minimum – Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Cartography

KEY COMPETENCIES ³

Expertise in technical drawings Competent in research, drawing, and field study

Knowledge in surveying, cartography and mapping, geodesy, remote sensing, photogrammetry, and geographic information system

Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and ArcGIS software

Ability to operate Total Station, Levelling, and GPS instruments

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES ³

Comprehensive knowledge of Land Acquisition Procedures Mapping Standards and other guidelines

Working knowledge of surveying principles and procedures

EXPECTED EARNINGS ⁵

For candidates with up to 6 years of experience – ₹ 29,000 to ₹ 30,000 per month

For candidates with 6 to 10 years of experience – ₹ 43,000 to ₹ 44,000 per month

For candidates with over 10 years of experience – ₹ 54,000 to ₹ 55,000 per month
