JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Belt Maker is expected to perform include:

  • Making and repairing leather belts, both for personal and industrial use

  • Skiving (tapering) ends when pieces must be joined

  • Sewing parts together using waxed thread and awl to punch holes

WORK ENVIRONMENT 2
  • It requires one to be on their toes
  • May need to handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available
  • Work from home option is not available

 

Working hours
  • Factories usually work for 6 days a week for 8 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory
  • Being self-employed is an option. In this case, working hours and working days will be flexible
  • Shift system is available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 2

Minimum – 10th pass

KEY COMPETENCIES 2
  • Proficient in using heated edging and creasing tools to aid in forming and decorating, belt and hand tools to attach buckles, metal fixtures, and other parts
  • Adept with trimming belts and finishing it, by treating with oil, dyeing
  • Knowledge of making or repairing canvas belts by stitching on leather parts, buckles and metal fixtures
  • Well-versed with operating leather machines

 

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 2

  • Knowledge of designing new belts for personal use

  • Knowledge of polishing metal fixtures

  • Knowledge of repairing belts, installing them on motors and machinery, and fixing fasteners in factory or workshop
