JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Malariologist, Medical is expected to perform include:
  • Conducting research on causes and effects of malaria in human system
  • Directing anti-malarial operations
  • Planning, organising and undertaking measures for control and eradication of malaria
  • Studying causes and effects of malaria in the laboratory by microscopic, biochemical and biological techniques in mosquitoes, mammals and other suitable animals
  • Determining the nature of disease, its pathological aspects and process of immunisation as consequence of protracted attacks of malaria
  • Studying the effects of insecticides on mosquitoes, to evolve better techniques of their utilisation
  • Studying biology of mosquitoes, nature of its blood-meal and transference of malaria parasite to human body
  • Conducting surveys of malaria infested areas and arranging spraying of insecticides and treatment of malaria cases
  • Conducting night blood, entomological surveys and anti-larval and other remedial measures

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 1

Working hours

  • Hospitals/clinics usually work for 6/7 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from hospital to hospital

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Minimum – Degree/Diploma in Malariology

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Ability to assess health programs, statistical analysis, health care surveillance systems, etc.
  • Efficient in planning and directing studies to investigate human or animal disease, preventive methods and treatments
  • Proficient in the design, management and evaluation of study protocols and health status questionnaires, sample selection and analysis
  • Efficient in conducting research to develop methodologies, instrumentation and procedures for medical applications
  • Efficient in preparing and analysing samples to study effects of drugs, gases, pesticides or microorganisms on cell structure and tissue
  • In-depth knowledge of standardised drug dosages, methods of immunisation and procedures for manufacture of drugs and medicinal compounds
