JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Midwife is expected to perform include:

Looking after new born babies

Advising patients on personal and environmental hygiene

Advising patients to consult a doctor

Identifying high risk pregnancies

Assisting Surgeon or Nurse in labour room and operation theatre

Conducting normal delivery cases

Providing full antenatal care to expectant mothers

WORK ENVIRONMENT ¹

It is not a desk job

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Part-time work and contractual jobs are available

Work from home option is not available

Working hours

Hospitals/clinics usually work for 6/7 days a week and 9/10 hours everyday. This may vary from hospital to hospital

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ³

Minimum – General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

In-depth knowledge of foetal and child development cycle

Knowledge of proper procedures for lifting and moving patients

Knowledge of female reproductive anatomy and physiology

Knowledge of personal and environmental hygiene during child-birth

Skilled in conducting tests and using equipment

Skilled in assisting women from pre-pregnancy to postnatal care

EXPECTED EARNINGS ⁵
