JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Nutritionist is expected to perform include:

  • Organizing, planning and conducting programmes concerning nutrition
  • Assisting in promotion of programmes for health and disease control
  • Instructing auxiliary medical personnel and allied professional workers on food values and utilisation of food by human body
  • Advising health and other agencies on nutritional phases of their food programmes
  • Studying and analysing latest scientific discoveries in nutrition for adaptation and application to various food problems
  • Interpreting and evaluating food and nutrient information
  • Informing and updating all the new food evaluations for public use​
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2
  • It is not a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Individual usually works for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. The organization or institution remains open and functional for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
  • Shift system may be available
  • Overtime may be required
  • Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably, B.Sc. in food technology/microbiology

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Detailed knowledge of metabolic balance programme
  • Skilled in doing nutritional assessment of the patient by measuring weight, height and BMI
  • Proficient in understanding and interpreting the blood analysis report
  • Skilled in reviewing the client’s current eating habits and wellness goals such as losing weight, treating a disease or preventing future health issues, etc.
  • Skilled in gathering information regarding the patient’s medical history, food preferences and lifestyle in order to get an individualized nutrition plan designed
  • Efficient in doing follow-ups and providing feedbacks and suggestions for improvement
  • Equipped in analysing the necessities of the patient and providing them with information, advice, nutritional information and support for changes needed
  • Proficient in suggesting recipes and creating interesting menus from the food list given to the clients​
