JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks an Ophthalmologist is expected to perform include:
  • Diagnosing and conducting treatment of diseases and disorders the of human eye
  • Examining the eye ball and its related parts
  • Using opthalmo-scope to locate cause of disorder or location of defect in the eye
  • Conducting clinical tests, histopathological examination and X-ray to find the disorder
  • Studying the disease related history of the patient along with other relevant personal data and diagnosing the disorder
  • Testing and prescribing spectacles, contact lenses or specialised glasses for visual defects
  • Testing and treating for muscular imbalances of the eye
  • Referring patients to other specialists for consultation or advise, if required

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 1

  • It is a desk job

  • The candidate will supervise a team of Nurses and other Medical Staff

  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role

  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available

  • Work from home option maybe available

Working hours

  • Hospitals/clinics usually work for 6/7 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from hospital to hospital

  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Minimum – MBBS

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in studying clinical tests, histopathological examinations and X-ray
  • Skilled in keeping an update with the new technology in eye examination machines
  • Detailed knowledge about spectacles, contact lenses or specialised glasses
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Health (MoH) policies and general system of health management
  • Skilled in science such as biology, human anatomy and biochemistry
  • Proficient in examining patients
  • Skilled in interpreting tests and accordingly counselling patients on rehabilitative, preventative and dietary care
  • Knowledge of all the potential side effects associated with a particular drug and informing the patient accordingly
  • Skilled in using medical equipment and instruments
