JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Medical Transcriptionists is expected to perform include:

Using computer and transcribing machines with headset and foot pedal or voice to listen to the recordings

Carrying out programming tasks connected with the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and software

Transcribing the dictated reports

Translating medical jargons and abbreviations into their expanded forms

Editing the reports and sending it to the dictator for review and signature or correction

WORK ENVIRONMENT ^{2, 4, 1}

It is a desk job

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is not a part of this job

Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Work from home option is available

Working hours

Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week for 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ⁴

Preferably, graduation with any specialisation

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, etc.

Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices

Proficient in english usage, grammar, punctuation, style and editing

Proficient in operating word processing equipment, dictation and transcription equipment and other equipment as specified

Ability to understand and apply relevant legal concepts like confidentiality clauses, etc.

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES ¹

Ability to work under pressure

Excellent listening skills

Good hand-eye coordination

Good typing speed

Excellent written and oral communication skills
