JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a System Analyst is expected to perform include:

Analysing user requirements, procedures and problems to automate processing, develop new system or to improve existing computer system
Writing technical report, memoranda and instructional manuals to document programme development
Upgrading systems and correcting errors to maintain system after implementation

WORK ENVIRONMENT ^{1, 2, 4}

It is a desk job
Need not handle a team
Travelling is not a part of this job role
Part-time and contractual jobs are available in some cities
Work from home option is not available

Working hours

Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week and 9/10 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization
Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible
Shift system may predominantly not be available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ⁴

Preferably, B.E/B.Tech/MCA/MBA

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

Proficient in analysing current operational procedures and identifying problems by way of interacting with organization personnel
Knowledge of specific input and output requirements such as forms of data input, how to summarise data and formats for reports
Adept at writing detailed description of user needs, programme functions and steps required to develop or modify computer programme
Well-versed in reviewing computer system capabilities, workflow and scheduling limitations to determine whether the requested programme or programme change is possible within existing system
Proficient in developing new systems to improve production or workflow as required
Adept at preparing workflow charts and diagrams to specify in detail operations to be performed by equipment and computer programmes and by personnel in the system
Well-versed in development of new information systems to meet current and projected needs
Proficient in upgrading systems and correcting errors to maintain system
Knowledge of resolving work problems related to flow charts, project specifications or programming
Adept at directing and co-ordinating work of others to develop, test, install, and modify programmes
Knowledge of current technical development in IT industry
Knowledge of preparing time and cost estimates for the project
