JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks an Edge Setter, Machine (Footwear)  is expected to perform include:
  • Operating edge-setting machine to polish edge of sole of shoe for giving shape and desired finish
  • Selecting handle iron according to thickness of sole
  • Turning holder containing handle iron over gas flame or spirit lamp as appropriate to heat it to required temperature.
  • Holding shoe with both hands against revolving handle iron and manipulating its movement to burnish its entire edge
  • Applying coating of wax with wax stick on burnishing edge of sole
  • Cleaning, oiling machine and removing defects, if required

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • It needs one to be on their toes

  • Need not handle a team

  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role

  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available

  • Work from home option is not available

Working hours

  • Factories usually work for 6 days a week for 8 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory

  • Shift system is available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Minimum – 5th pass

  • Proficient in handling all tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of different types of materials to be used for any particular operation
  • Well-versed with setting heating temperature as per different heels

  • Well-versed with different finishing chemicals and wax

  • Knowledge of different types of finishing methodology
