JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Cytologist is expected to perform include:

  • Conducting research through study of plant and animal cells
  • Relating research findings to breeding and reproduction of plants/animals
  • Determining physical and chemical factors for growth of cells
  • Raising different plants in experimental farm for breeding and hybridization
  • Observing behaviour of hybrids with reference to chromosome pairing, cause of sterility, etc.

Working hours

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Preferably, M.Sc in Biology

  • Ability to study and conduct research in plant and animal cells
  • Ability to select and cut sections of minute parts of animal or plant tissues for microscopic study
  • Ability to employ stain techniques to make self structures visible or to differentiate parts for study
  • Ability to study component parts and details of division of cell
  • Ability to relate research findings to breeding and reproduction of plants and animals carrying particular characteristics or hereditary characters
  • Ability to determine physical and chemical factors for growth of cells
  • Ability to raise different plants in experimental farm for breeding and hybridization
  • Ability to observe behaviour of hybrids
  • Ability to introduce desirable characters from wild relatives of crop plant into cultivated plant
