JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Fingerprint Expert is expected to perform include:

  • Examining fingerprints in criminal investigations and for identifying persons
  • Examining fingerprints impressions visually or with magnifying glass and scientific apparatus to find out their characteristics
  • Classifying and arranging fingerprint impressions according to grouping depending on their characteristics
  • Comparing the fingerprints with those on record to establish identity of persons
  • Examining fingerprint impressions found at scene of crime with powerful light and scientific apparatus such as magnifying, glass, microscope, etc. and gets them photographed
  • Checking and comparing photo impressions with those of known criminals on file of police to establish identity
  • Assisting court in identifying thumb impressions in forgery and impersonation cases by comparing disputed impressions with admitted ones
  • Attending court when required to give evidence in criminal or civil cases to prove identity of impressions
  • Examining palm and identifying footprints by tracing, tracking, casting, etc.
  • Taking photographs of impressions and developing them to locate fugitives, absconders, establish identity of dead persons, etc.

  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 5

Preferably, diploma in Fingerprint Examination

  • Ability to reconstruct the circumstances and events surrounding a crime scene
  • Competent in collecting, examining, analysing and comparing partial or latent fingerprint evidence
  • Well-versed with various techniques to collect fingerprint evidence
  • Proficient in using photographic and computer equipment
