JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Mining Engineer, General is expected to perform include:
  • Planning, organizing and supervising work of extracting metallic and non-metallic minerals from earth
  • Studying geological and topographical surveys to determine location, size, inclination, etc. of mineral deposits
  • Deciding upon most effective and economic techniques to be used
  • Preparing working and development plans for mining operation
  • Supervising and co-ordinating various mining surveying and related operations
  • Ensuring safe extraction and efficient working
  • Supervising operations in treatment of minerals at mine or quarry
  • Enforcing safety measures and checking unauthorized exploitation of minerals
  • Supervising rescue operation
  • Maintaining records and statistical data   
  • Preparing reports for government and other authorities
  • Advising government on leasing of mineral properties  

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 2

Working hours

  • Mining companies usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 
Minimum – B.Tech / B.E. (Mining) 

 

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Knowledge of treatment to metallic and non metallic minerals prior to direct use or further processing
  • Proficient in conducting geological and topographical surveys
  • Knowledge of developing working plans for mining operation including plans for roadways, railways, and power supply
  • Knowledge of preparing mining surveys for operations related to entrance into mine by driving of shaft, transportation, ventilation, roofing by providing supports, etc.
  • Well-versed with arranging for storage of explosives, blasting, haulage, sampling of mined materials, sand stowing, valuing, etc.
  • Knowledge of treatment of minerals such as washing, crushing, re-dressing, etc.  

 

  • Well-versed with guidelines of mines department
  • Knowledge of safety aspects   
  • Proficient in undertaking research in mining engineering
