JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Caretaker, Burial Places and Cremation grounds is expected to perform include:

  • Looking after maintenance of grave-yard, crematorium or tower of silence
  • Arranging requisite material and keeping record of dead bodies buried or disposed
  • Receiving and recording particulars of deceased
  • Allocating or marking place for burial or cremation, arranging supply of necessary implements for digging of grave, firewood for cremation, and other assistance where required
  • Keeping premises clean and tidy and arranging removal of remains of cremated body not collected
  • Undertaking responsibility for disposing unclaimed bodies or destitute
WORK ENVIRONMENT 2
  • It is not a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling maybe a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Tourism and  hospitality industry usually works for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company
  • Shift system maybe available
  • Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 

Minimum – Basic reading and writing

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Knowledge about funeral arrangements so that chairs, lowering devices, and other burial items are set up properly
  • Knowledge and skill to perform cemetery maintenance work
  • Proficient in setting tombstones
  • Understanding the requirements and procedures for headstones/markers/niche covers (e.g., setting, maintenance, inspection and disposal)
  • Well-versed with operating procedures for grounds maintenance equipment and vehicles (e.g., small utility vehicles, riding mower and tractors)
  • Knowledge of gravesite preparation and accountability procedures
  • Ability to handle cemetery housekeeping and janitorial duties
