JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Loco Cleaner is expected to perform include:

  • Cleaning the loco engines and performing allied tasks in the loco-shed
  • Cleaning the engine and its parts using waste cotton and kerosene oil
  • Applying a white chalk or limestone solution on the cleaned parts and striking it with a hammer to check for cracks, if any
  • Moving the engine backward or forward with the help of crow-bars and turning it by pushing it on the mechanical device when required
  • Lighting the firebox, and shovelling coke in it
  • Dropping the fire by shaking the handle of the fire-grate or operating the lever in the engine, and performing other tasks under guidance
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It needs one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Working hours are 8 hours everyday for 6 days a week
  • Shift system is available
  • Overtime is available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Minimum - 10th pass or ITI

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Proficient in cleaning the engine and its parts using waste cotton
  • Knowledge of how to move the engine backward or forward with the help of crowbars
  • Proficient in lighting the firebox, shovelling coke in it
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 
  • Knowledge of how to oil and lubricate engine parts
  • Knowledge of how to drop fire from the firebox of the engine after completion of the journey
