The tasks a Diplomat is expected to perform include:
  • Representing the Union of India in other countries
  • Taking part in international organisations, meetings and conferences
  • Interpreting the policies of Indian Government in foreign countries
  • Advising the India Government on matters of foreign relations, trade, commerce, etc.
  • Negotiating and entering into agreements with other countries and nations
  • Issuing visas to foreigners for visit to India
  • Supervising welfare of Indians who live abroad
  • Promoting interest of his/her country

Minimum – Graduate in any stream and Union Public Service Commission exam cleared

  • Ability to representing India in its Embassies, High Commissions, Consulates and Permanent Missions and to multilateral organisations like UN
  • Skilled in protecting India’s national interests in the country of his/her posting
  • Skilled in promoting friendly relations with the receiving state and also its people including NRI/PIOs
  • Skilled in accurately reporting about all the developments in the country of posting 
  • Ability to reach on negotiating agreements on various issues with the authorities of the receiving state
  • Proficient in providing extending consular facilities to foreigners and Indian nationals abroad
