JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Traffic Inspector, Railway is expected to perform include:

  • Inspecting activities on the stations under their jurisdiction to ensure compliance with all traffic and operative rules
  • Examining records and registers maintained at each station to check attendance records and the efficiency of staff and the extent to which trains operate on schedule
  • Inspecting the condition of the station building, platform, drinking water, refreshment facilities and other public conveniences
  • Checking the crossing gates, goods shed and parcel office for compliance with safety regulations
  • Conducting night inspection of signals and ensuring that lighting arrangements are adequate
  • Making surprise inspections by travelling in passenger or goods trains to check compliance with traffic rules
  • Accompanying important passengers in the train to ensure that all facilities and courtesies are provided to them
  • Resolving public complaints and investigating minor accidents, theft of goods, delays, etc.

  • Working hours are 8 hours everyday for 6 days a week

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 14

Minimum - University degree or its equivalent 

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of all railway traffic and operative rules
  • Proficient in examining the maintained records and registers 
  • Knowledge of safety regulations to be followed
  • Proficient in resolving public complaints and investigating minor accidents, theft of goods, delays, etc.
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 14

Diploma in Rail Transport and Management from the Institute of Rail Transport
