JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Section Controller, Railway is expected to perform include:

  • Controlling the movement of rail traffic within their section
  • Arranging the crossing of trains, efficient utilisation of waggons and formation of goods trains at junction stations
  • Re-scheduling rolling stock, transshipment, etc. in the case of accidents and breakdowns
  • Maintaining the charts of running trains and ensuring the receipt and submission of prescribed reports and returns
  • Recommending changes in the timetable in accordance with public requests and requirements

  • It is a desk job
  • May need to handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available in some cities

Working hours
  • Working hours are 8 hours everyday for 6 days a week

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 11

Minimum - University degree or its equivalent

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in controlling the movement of rail traffic within their territorial jurisdiction by arranging the movement of trains and rolling stock at different stations
  • Ability to liaise with the stations in their jurisdiction and remain in regular and timely contact with them
  • Adept at co-ordinating the crossing of trains within their section with the adjoining divisions and railways according to the timetable
  • Well-versed at completely utilising the waggons by adjusting their supply and demand at different stations
  • Ability to control the formation of trains at the marshalling yard

Knowledge of how to recommend changes in the timetable in accordance with public requests and requirements
